How do I replace the battery in the iPod mini models?
As all iPod mini models are out of warranty, Apple can replace the battery in your original iPod mini and iPod mini (2nd Gen) for a cost of US$59 plus US$6.95 shipping.
However, a variety of more affordable third-party services also are available. Third-parties offer full battery replacement services for considerably less than Apple charges and often sell batteries for self-installation as well.
Identification Help
If you are not sure if you have an iPod mini -- it can be easy to confuse these models with some models in the later iPod nano line -- one way to externally identify each is via a unique model number listed on the back of the device in tiny print. Specifically, both the original iPod mini and iPod mini (2nd Gen) share the A1051 model number.
EveryiPod.com's Ultimate iLookup feature also can identify the iPod mini models by EMC number, order number, and the last three characters of their serial numbers as well.
