The FastMac G4/550 (iMac) features a 550 MHz PowerPC 7410 (G4) processor with 1 MB of backside cache. FastMac has circumvented the ROM-issue regarding processor upgrades (see FAQ), by retro-fitting an existing iMac logic board with a faster processor. FastMac allows you to either remove your logic board and ship it to them to perform the upgrade or use their "Advance Exchange" program, where you provide a deposit of $150 US, an upgraded logic board is shipped to you for installation, and your deposit is refunded upon shipping your old logic board to FastMac. This upgrade is compatible with all slot-loading iMac models with 350, 400, 450, or 500 MHz processors (with the exception of the iMac "500" (Flower Power/Blue Dalmatian). Supports both MacOS 9.2 and MacOS X. |
