The iBook G3/366 Special Edition (Original/Clamshell), features a 366 MHz PowerPC 750 (G3) processor, 64 MB of RAM, a 6.0 GB hard drive, and 2X AGP ATI Rage Mobility graphics with 4 MB of VRAM packed into a sleek handle-equipped "graphite and ice" case with a 12.1" TFT active matrix display (800x600 native resolution).
Following in the footsteps of the iMac models, the iBook was introduced as a low-cost portable Mac for the consumer market -- and likewise lacked Firewire ports, video out, and even a microphone. However, the iBook did herald the introduction of AGP-based graphics on the Mac as well as the innovative new optional "AirPort" wireless networking card. Later to become commonplace, "AirPort" made it possible to connect multiple iBook systems wirelessly to the Internet when paired with an AirPort base station (or other wireless system).
The iBook G3/366 Special Edition (Original/Clamshell) is the same as the original iBook with the exception of processor speed, configuration -- although the original iBook models were enhanced to match the same amount of RAM and hard drive storage upon introduction of the "SE" -- and case color. The "Special Edition" model is housed in a "graphite and ice" case geared toward those with more conservative design tastes.
