How can I secure a "Tapered Edge" Aluminum iMac? Which security lock is best?

The "Tapered Edge" Aluminum iMac -- from the "Late 2012" models to the "2020" models -- all have a standard security slot on its back (in the middle toward the bottom behind the stand). Accordingly, just about any cable lock with the correct size connector will work, including the well regarded NewerTech Combination Cable Lock from site sponsor OWC.

However, in our experience, the location of the iMac security slot and the weight of any cable can interfere a little with the ability to tilt the display. Accordingly, EveryMac.com considers the Kensington SafeDome Cable Lock, to be the best choice, although it is getting more difficult to find these days.

The SafeDome Cable Lock costs quite a bit more than a basic cable and lock, but because it slides into the hole in the iMac stand and has an attractive chrome finish, it looks much nicer and does not interfere with the function of the iMac, either.

The SafeDome Cable Lock makes it easy to route cables for a wired keyboard and mouse or any external USB or Thunderbolt storage through the lock to properly secure them, too.
