The Apple iPod U2 Special Edition Fifth Generation (with Video) is internally identical to the 30 GB version of the iPod Fifth Generation (with Video) but cost US$30 more (US$329). Externally, it has a red "ClickWheel", and unique compared to previous U2 iPods, a "gloss black metal" rear case (featuring laser-etched autographs of the U2 band members like the others).
Like the standard iPod Fifth Generation (with Video) it has a "2.5-inch (diagonal) QVGA transflective over 260,000 color LCD display" (320x240, .156-mm dot pitch) with a "white LED" backlight. Likewise, it is capable of supporting "up to" 7,500 songs in "128-Kbps AAC format" and "over 1000" 4 minute videos in "H.264 750-Kbps video with 128-Kbps audio" either internally or on a television (at a maximum resolution of 480x480).
Additionally, like the standard iPod 5th Generation, the U2 variant can immediately display many types of photos transferred directly from a digital camera using the iPod Camera Connector (US$29), and can display photo slide shows on the internal display or a television using the included AV cable (S-video, data and audio output, and a variable line output port are provided by the optional Universal Dock (US$39) that also provides support for the Apple Remote (US$29).
Apple reports that it provides 14 hours of music playback, 3 hours of slideshows with music, and 2 hours of video playback.
