Who designed the MacBook Pro?

Apple's industrial design for the last several years has been performed entirely in-house by Apple's Industrial Design Group, led by Jonathan Ive.

If you are interested in industrial design, you might like to purchase the long ago out of print AppleDesign: The Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group. This book has hundreds of full color photographs of vintage prototype Apple products that were never released and is an interesting look into the evolution of Apple's style.

Where can I buy a pre-Unibody MacBook Pro?

There are any number of places to purchase a used Mac, but these MacBook Pro models now are so old that they really are available only via online auction sites.

To purchase upgrades, please visit site sponsor Other World Computing, which sells memory, hard drives, and more for the MacBook Pro models as well as every other Mac.

What were the default configurations?

For the default configurations of each model please refer to the specs page for the model of interest and the "Comparative Q&As".

Were custom configurations available?

Yes. You could customize the processor, amount and configuration of RAM, hard drive size and speed, whether to have a "matte" or "glossy" display, and decide whether or not to add an external 56.6k v.92 Apple USB Modem for US$49 or a MagSafe Airline Adapter for US$59. For the "Early 2008/Penryn" MacBook Pro models, you also could decide whether or not to add an Apple Remote for US$19.
