Who designed the MacBook Pro?
Apple's industrial design for the last several years has been performed entirely in-house by Apple's Industrial Design Group, led by Jonathan Ive.
If you are interested in industrial design, you might like to purchase the out of print AppleDesign: The Work of the Apple Industrial Design Group. This book has hundreds of full color photographs of vintage prototype Apple products that were never released and is an interesting look into the evolution of Apple's style.
Where can I buy a MacBook Pro?
In the US, you may purchase a MacBook Pro directly from Apple, but doing so often will require you to pay sales tax, which easily can exceed US$100. Those interested in getting the best deal would be better served by purchasing their MacBook Pro 15-Inch or MacBook Pro 17-Inch from an Apple Authorized Reseller that does not charge sales tax, like site sponsor PowerMax.
Site sponsor PowerMax also offers a large selection of refurbished and used systems, including the PowerBook G4.
What are the default configurations?
For the default configurations of each model please refer to the specs page for the model of interest and the "Comparative Q&As".
Are custom configurations available?
Yes. You can customize the processor, amount and configuration of RAM, hard drive size and speed, whether to have a "matte" or "glossy" display, and decide whether or not to add an external 56.6k v.92 Apple USB Modem for US$49 or a MagSafe Airline Adapter for US$59. For the current "Early 2008/Penryn" MacBook Pro models, you also can decide whether or not to add an Apple Remote for US$19.
