Apple PowerBook 3400c/180The Apple Macintosh PowerBook 3400c/180 -- codenamed Hooper -- features a 180 MHz PowerPC 603e processor, 16 MB of RAM, and a 1.3 GB hard drive -- along with a 6X or 12X CD-ROM drive in some configurations -- all packed in a portable black case with a 12.1" color active matrix display.

The PowerBook 3400c/180 display supports 16-bit color and the computer also can mirror up-to 16-bit color on an external monitor.

In addition to support for the "hot swappable" drive bays introduced by the PowerBook 5300 series before it, the PowerBook 3400 models introduced support for zoomed video and 1 MB IrDA as well as a new four speaker sound system.

More notable than individual features, however, the PowerBook 3400 series made its mark by being the first series of PowerBooks fast enough to actually replace, rather than merely complement, a desktop system for most users.
