Apple Xserve G4The Apple Xserve G4/1.0 features a 1.0 GHz PowerPC 7455 (G4) processor with the AltiVec "Velocity Engine" vector processing unit, 256k "on chip" level 2 cache and 2 MB "backside" level 3 cache, 256 MB of PC2100 DDR SDRAM, a 60 GB (7200 RPM) Ultra ATA/100 hard drive, a 24X CD-ROM drive, an ATI PCI graphics card with 32 MB of DDR SDRAM (an ATI Radeon 8500 AGP 4X graphics card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM was available as an optional configuration), and dual 10/100/1000Base-T (Gigabit) Ethernet.

The Xserve is designed for network intensive use and occupies 1U of an industry-standard 19" rack, the first Apple product ever designed to be rack-mounted. The Xserve also was the first Apple product to use DDR SDRAM, Ultra ATA/100 drives (four hot swappable "Apple Drive Modules" -- each running on its own Ultra ATA/100 bus), and dual Gigabit Ethernet. The Xserve has two full length 66 MHz, 64-bit PCI slots and one half-length 66 MHz, 32-bit combination PCI/4X AGP slot. In the default configuration, the lower 64-bit PCI slot is occupied by the video card and the 32-bit combination PCI/AGP slot is occupied by a Gigabit Ethernet card.

The Xserve shipped with an unlimited user version of MacOS X Server 10.1.5 and custom server monitoring software pre-installed. Custom configurations also were available.

Despite the age of this system, site sponsor Other World Computing has RAM, hard drives, SSDs, and other upgrades available for this specific Mac while supplies last.
