How many songs does each iPod, iPod mini, iPod nano, iPod touch, and iPod shuffle hold?

The maximum number of songs that every iPod is capable of storing varies upon the length of songs, file type, format, and encoding used. Using the iPod to hold photos and videos (when applicable), likewise can reduce the number of songs the iPod can store.

However, the capacity of every iPod in gigabytes, along with the Apple estimated number of songs that each can hold, is provided below:

* Apple estimated the song capacity of the first and second generation iPod using the 160-Kbps MP3 format. These files are larger than the 128-Kbps AAC format used to estimate the capacity of subsequent iPod models.

† Interestingly, Apple did not provide "official" estimates for song capacity, photo capacity and video capacity for these models. However, as overall capacities of these models are unchanged from earlier models, these estimates still are worthwhile to get a general idea of storage capacity.
