What type of video processor is provided by the "Unibody" MacBook Pro models? Is it upgradable? Which models have "dedicated" and "integrated" video memory?
The "Late 2008/Unibody" MacBook Pro models have dual graphics processors and dual graphics processors were one of the features that distinguished the MacBook "Pro" from the "non-Pro" line. The "Pro" line all were equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 256 MB or 512 MB of dedicated GDDR3 SDRAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory.
On June 8, 2009, Apple released the "Mid-2009" MacBook Pro line, and although all use a "Unibody" case design, the three lower-end models -- the MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.26 13" (SD/FW), "Core 2 Duo" 2.53 13" (SD/FW), and "Core 2 Duo" 2.53 15" (SD) -- only have a single "integrated graphics" NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. The higher-end models, however -- the MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.66 15" (SD), "Core 2 Duo" 2.8 15" (SD), and "Core 2 Duo" 2.8 17" (Mid-2009) -- have dual graphics processors like their predecessors.
