The level of Mac OS 9/Classic support for each PowerPC G3, G4, and G5-based Mac is listed below. For complete specs on a particular system, click on the name of the Mac (left column). For all Macs that match a specific Mac OS 9 compatibility -- courtesy of EveryMac.com's Ultimate Mac Sort -- click the compatibility of interest (right column).
Please note that "Classic Mode" indicates a system can run Mac OS 9 applications within the Mac OS X "Classic Environment" provided with Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" and lower. Apple provides no support for Mac OS 9/Classic applications on any Intel-based Macs or on PowerPC-based Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard".
Please particularly be mindful of asterisks, as these note that a system is capable of running Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" but the "Classic Environment" is only supported when running Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger" or lower.
In addition to specs listed By Capability, EveryMac.com offers Apple Mac specs listed By Year, By Identifier, By Processor, By Case Type, and By Global Original Prices. Currently Shipping Macs also may be of interest.
